Most private tenants completely happy with landlords – new data

Almost three quarters (74%) of tenants in England say they’re happy with their renting experience.

And only 11% say they are unhappy, according to new research from Pepper Money.

The research shows happiness levels of tenants in England consistently high across every region of the country, with those in the South East and South West of England reporting the highest happiness levels.

The data shows that tenants who reported more positive experiences have a greater concentration of landlords living closer to their rental properties, revealing a link between proximity, responsiveness, and positive tenant outcomes.

Across England, 77% of tenants whose landlord lives within 40 miles of their rental property reported being happy with their experience.

This drops to 71% for those with landlords who lives more than 50 miles away, suggesting a local landlord presence can help support stronger day-to-day renting experiences.

Almost seven in ten renters (69%) say they want to buy their own home in the future, according to a separate study by Pepper Money, with  29% expecting to be in the financial position to do so within the next three years, underlining the importance of a stable and supportive rental market as tenants plan their next steps.*

A spokesperson for the firm says: Our research shows that when landlords are engaged and responsive, tenants feel the benefit directly through well-maintained homes, quicker repairs and a greater sense of stability and trust, all of which help sustain a functioning rental sector.”
