A council has won an appeal to enforce a Financial Penalty Notice served on a landlord letting without a licence.
A Financial Penalty to the total value of £1,345.38 was served on the landlord in October 2023 because they failed to submit an application to East Staffordshire council despite numerous warnings.
A total of 15 financial penalties have been served on rogue landlords by the council, totalling over £45,000, since the 2022 start of the current Selective Licensing scheme.
Councillor Simon Slater, Cabinet Member for Communities and Regulatory Services, says: “Whilst the majority of landlords have complied with the selective licensing scheme, there remains some landlords that have not.
“Our officers are actively investigating all cases of none compliance and will consider enforcement action for any landlord that is found to be in breach of the requirements.
“I would therefore encourage any landlord that has not complied with the scheme to submit an application without delay.”
