Activists protest outside landlord’s workplace in deposit dispute

Activists have threatened to hold a second protest outside the workplace of a landlord over an apparent dispute about a deposit.

The Bristol Evening Post reports that a former tenant had been waiting “for months” for the return of a deposit from the unnamed landlord.

The ex-tenant is named as Aelisha Dickson, in Bristol, who reportedly left her flat in the city after claiming the landlord failed to fix a leak.

At the beginning of December, Dickson told activist group Acorn that she had not had her deposit returned nor the compensation she wanted for costs incurred because of the leak.

Dickson contacted the activists who staged a protest outside the landlord’s workplace – a shop – in the city.

After the protest earlier this month the ex-tenant said a further deadline for the payment had passed, so a second protest was planned.

In the interim the landlord paid the money in full.

The activists, according to local media, regarded this as “a big win”.

A spokesperson for the group is quoted by the Bristol Evening Post as saying: “Landlords like this must face up to the fact that their actions have consequences. When we come together, we win.”
